during these challenging times there are many lessons to be learnt. one of them is never to stop reinventing yourself, never to stop creating. I learnt to be human again, looking into the space within my confined body to discover that it is, in fact limitless. our bodies mirror Nature. movement brings the light in. Life. Blossom. Creation. this is a humble ode to being human, being transparent and being true. I danced myself right out the womb.

About the artist

Born in Italy in 1989, Melissa graduated from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds (UK) in 2011 with a First Class Honours Degree, winning the Award for Outsanding Achievement. After graduation, Melissa worked with numerous international choreographers like Akram Khan, Andonis Foniadakis, Aakash Odedra, Nicolas Cantillon and Laurence Yadi, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Barak Marshall, İtzik Galili, İhsan Rüstem, Bruno Caverna and Beyhan Murphy amongst others, besides performing both new creations and repertoire works with Companhia Instavel (Portugal), LamatDance Company (Spain), James Wilton Dance Company (UK) and with the Turkish National Company Modern Dance Theatre Istanbul (MDTIstanbul) touring worldwide. In 2017 she begins to collaborate with fellow dancer Evrim Akyay for ‘One by One’ and ‘Tak’, presented as part of the 2017 Moving Vishagrad Festival and presents her own creation ‘Shut Your Eye’ as part of HangartFest 2019 in Italy, alongside fellow musician Jacopo Mariotti. Beside sharing her practice through workshops in Italy, UK, Turkey, Iran and India, Melissa is currently a member of Aakash Odedra Company (UK) and of Compagnie 7273 (Switzerland). In 2020 Melissa will join internationally acclaimed choreographer Anouk van Dijk and theatre director Falk Richter for the new production of the Theater Kammerspiele in Munich, Germany. In 2012 Melissa also performed at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games alongside the Akram Khan Company.
